People and Change

It is natural for some people to resist changeChange Management is essential in the delivery of any form of business improvement. It focuses on the people aspects of the change, ensuring that all levels of the organisation are able to understand, contribute to, and own the planned change. For example, Lean Management will not become part of your company’s culture without committed employees. This culture needs a shared clarity of purpose, and a capacity and a desire to be able to identify problems and fix them quickly without finger-pointing or blame. The same can be said of your external suppliers and customers as you drive towards your Lean Supply Chain.

Lean Business France can support you as you embark upon your change initiatives through the use of our four-step structured approach to implementing and managing change :

1) the definition stage, where we outline the reasons for change, whether it be a crisis or more positive business benefits, and describe the vision and future state,

2) an assessment of the readiness for change, in which we analyse the current business climate, learn from similar changes in the company and elsewhere, understand the culture of the company, and try to predict both group and individual reactions to the changes being implemented,

3) the preparation phase identifies stakeholders and change agents and agrees with them an engagement approach, defines training requirements and appropriate communication requirements

4) finally, if all has gone well, we should be ready for the implementation of the change, during which the emphasis is on assessing the way the changes are being received on the ground, supporting groups and individuals with incorporating new ways of working, and documenting learnings for future projects.

Obviously, different circumstances require different solutions, and our experience is that there is no one best way to support change efforts – it has to be adapted to the size, circumstances and culture of the company and to the change to be implemented. Our approach to change, described in this section, focuses therefore on the provision of scaleable activities tailored to fit your specific needs.
